Hi, I’m Reid! I write about my life experiences and how we can all live in brave new ways. Dare You is a reader-supported publication. To receive weekly posts and support my work, please consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
June taught me…
It’s okay to be a non-expert. Not claiming to be an expert at something but still showing up, doing it, and owning your “non-expertness” is really powerful. You immediately become more relatable, and your perspective matters because you are brave enough to share it. Some might ask, “What qualifies YOU to speak on this topic?” And the simple reply, “Because I’m the one who’s not afraid to say it.” Is enough.
Focusing on what I can’t control is a recipe for disaster. When I focus on what I CAN control, I take my power back and gain an ounce of peace. When I focus on what I CAN control, unique solutions to my problems present themselves.
There comes a time in life where you must ask yourself, “Am I willing to abandon myself in order to be liked?” If everybody likes you, you aren’t showing up as your full authentic self. Choose yourself.
Challenging situations are the universe saying, “it’s time to level up.”
Swimming in a lake or the ocean is extremely healing. I want to make an effort moving forward to seek this out more often.
Scrolling on instagram drains your potential.
When I wake up before the sun rises, I have an extremely productive day because I allowed myself to do all the things I like to do in the morning without feeling rushed. Stuff like meditating, journaling, thinking…. I do my best thinking in the morning.
Allowing yourself to feel behind in life is a waist of time and counterproductive. Comparing yourself to others is also a waist of time and just lame.
Sometimes you just need to stay up late and binge-watch reality TV in order to feel good again.
You may try your absolute best and still not meet other people’s standards.

Morning journaling is my life line! Nice list Reid.
Love all of them! I was thinking about Instagram recently. I put it back on my phone so I could keep up with my friend’s overseas trip, but found myself scrolling recently.
I lull myself into thinking I’m getting inspired, but because we’re scrolling there is no pause to either act on the inspiration or internalise it - you’re onto the next bit of consumption. Definitely needs a warning “proceed (scroll) with caution” ⚠️
